100% wool flannel

The fabric is the whole point. This is a substantial 100% wool flannel, woven at over 400 grams, so it is heavier than the wool in a blazer but not as heavy as a peacoat or overcoat. That weight is what makes it durable, elevated, and genuinely warm, a fabric built to take on the elements while still looking refined. It holds its shape, resists wrinkles and odor, and molds to your head the more you wear it.

Made for cooler weather

This hat is made for cooler weather, the fall and winter stretch when you want something with a little more substance on your head. It is comfortable enough to keep on indoors, so you are not pulling it off the moment you step inside. And when it really turns cold, it has more to give: paired with a set of earmuffs, it will keep you warm well into single-digit temperatures. I have worn this hat through many Chicago snowstorms, and it has never once let me down.

Designed with intention

Every detail is a decision. The semi-structured two front panels hold a clean, refined shape without feeling stiff. It is finished with a 100% leather adjustable strap in black, a metal press closure and grommet, and a pass-through that tucks the excess strap back inside for a streamlined profile. On the back, a single small embroidered V, the only branding on the hat.

The signature interior

Inside, the hat is fully lined in our signature Maui blue, a moisture-wicking 100% polyester lining that keeps the finish clean and comfortable.

The break-in period

Like a good pair of dress shoes, a wool flannel hat is meant to break in, and it is worth knowing what to expect. When it is new it may feel a little structured or snug, and that is normal. Over the first several wears the wool relaxes, softens, and molds to the shape of your head, and the fit only improves with time. To help it along, give the brim a deeper curve than you think you need, and wear the hat a touch tighter than feels natural at first. Within a few wears it settles in and becomes the hat you reach for without thinking, the same way good leather shoes take a little time to feel like your own.

Care

Spot clean as needed with cool water and a mild detergent, then reshape and air dry. The wool can handle getting wet, though prolonged exposure to rain or snow is not ideal. If you get caught in a storm, simply hang the hat to dry and never wring it out. Avoid hot water, the washing machine, and the dryer.
